Dear customers and subscribers, since pre-orders we have been incredibly busy working on our folk horror anthology Unquiet Slumbers. Typesetting and layouts have been completed, and we are delighted to share with you three of Eli John’s illustrations.
The frontispiece accompanies the haunting story ‘The Flabby Man’ by David Surface which was inspired by an isolated farm in Scott County, rural Kentucky. We also have illustrations for Sean Hogan’s terrifying ‘Wassail’, which should certainly please fans of both M R James and Robert Aickman, and finally is the illustration for Michael Wehunt’s, subtle and dreamlike ‘Greener Pastures’ which received critical attention and praise from many of his contemporaries such as Paul Tremblay, Steve Rasnic Tem, John Langan and Nathan Ballingrud.
“Weird, emotionally complex, Kafkaesque, dread-filled: I might apply all these terms and more to Michael Wehunt’s collection Greener Pastures. It’s one of the finest debuts I’ve read in years. Wehunt understands that true strangeness comes out of the personal, and that true horror is what happens during the complex interactions between real human beings. Greener Pastures is outstanding work.”—Steve Rasnic Tem, award-winning author of Deadfall Hotel, Blood Kin, and Ubo
Eli should have completed the illustrations over the next six weeks, and we will keep you informed with another update when we have everything sent over to the printer.
All best wishes,
Victoria
What are the chances of another printing for Unquiet Slumbers? I just discovered Nepenthe, I love folk horror, and of course I missed out on snagging a copy. The artwork is lovely!
